Wooden Toys Are Often Carved From The Heart

The first toys made for children were wooden toys and this tradition has lasted though out the years. Fathers and grandfathers to the delight of little children lovingly carved toys. These were the simplest of toys compared to the toys of today. Wooden toys have developed a reputation for being durable and innovative. Wood is a material with a limited lifespan unless cared for very carefully so ancient wooden toys are a rare and valuable find. They can govern a very high price at the right antique auctions. These old toys are often replicas of such things as trains, boats and figurines.

There are many different types of wood and each kind lends itself to a different color available for toys. Many wooden toys are produced with just a varnish or high shine finish so the color and texture of the wood plays a part in the appearance of the toy. Wood also lends itself very well to painting, which can prove to be another advantage to making interesting toys for children. In any category of toy you will find versions of toys made from wood. You can even find some very ingenious puzzles carved from a single piece of wood that will baffle the best puzzler.

Many wooden toys are produced by small companies that take great pride in the quality of their workmanship. They produce toys that can become heirlooms if well cared for. Search the Internet for a list of these suppliers as well as suppliers that mass-produce for a much larger market.
