Merit Fellows Lecture Series Continues at Southampton College with American History, Barbie, and Poetry

America in the 30’s, the rise of fascism, the Spanish Civil War, and the events leading up to World War II will be discussed by one who lived it, Art Munday, during the next Merit Fellows Lecture titled in the Fine Arts Theatre at Southampton College. An Oscar-nominated documentary titled Forever Activist will be shown after his discussion followed by a question and answer period.

Mr. Munday of Hampton Bays, now retired after 20 years of shark fishing off Montauk, is a former labor union organizer and activist. He earned money during the Depression as a prize fighter and once rode shotgun for the notorious bootlegger, Dutch Schultz. Mr. Munday has promised to deliver, ...nothing but the facts.

The legacy of Barbie, the Mattel toy that started life as a sleazy German doll then evolved into an international marketing phenomenon and cultural icon, will be discussed by M.G. Lord in the Fine Arts Theatre. Ms. Lord is the author of Forever Barbie: The Unauthorized Biography of a Real Doll.

Dr. Sandy McIntosh, author of numerous poetry collections and essays will read excerpts and discuss the issues in the Fine Arts Threatre. Dr. McIntosh is editor of Confrontation, the national literary magazine published by Long Island University. He is a 1970 alumnus of Southampton College.
