Mforma Announces Launch of First Multicarrier, Multiplayer Wireless Game for U.S. Carriers
Mforma Group Inc., a leading global publisher and distributor of wireless entertainment, today announced that a new wireless game, IHRA Drag Racing by Bethesda Softworks and Vir2L Studios, is expected to soon be available to subscribers of five U.S. wireless service providers-AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon Wireless. IHRA Drag Racing is the first multiplayer game where users of one network can play other users across network boundaries.
Mforma is working to make great wireless games instantly available to every user without regard to network, handset, or location, said Scott Jensen, Mforma's VP of media and licensing. With the launch of IHRA Drag Racing, we have removed even network boundaries so that users can play each other anytime, anywhere. This represents a terrific opportunity for service providers whose subscribers now have no impediments to communicating with each other on the wireless gaming field.
IHRA Drag Racing, developed by Vir2L Studios, is based on Bethesda Softworks' hit video game of the same name that has sold over one million copies for PC, PlayStation game console, and the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. The game features the head-to-head excitement of drag racing in popular classifications such as classic, stock, pro-mod, pro-stock, and funny car. The game also features an upgrade shop and 6 - 32 vehicles (for select handsets), and multiplayer capability. In multiplayer mode, players can challenge their friends across the carrier's network, retrieve best scores and times, and advance their rank on the game's leader boards.
Drag racing on wireless is ideal for players that want the quick game and three-minute race as well as the opportunity to climb a notch on the leader board, said Douglas Frederick, president of Vir2L Studios. With the launch of live multiplayer racing over inter-carrier networks, the competition and challenges for our players becomes even more engaging and entertaining.
Being able to play IHRA Drag Racing across network boundaries will be a huge bonus for IHRA fans since the majority are wireless customers to begin with. said Aaron Polburn, vice president of IHRA Motorsports. Even for those who aren't IHRA fans, the multiplayer game is a blast.
