PatentCafe.com Awards Grants to Child Invention & Education Organizations
PatentCafe.com, Inc. announced today its sponsorship of three important kids' invention programs benefiting almost 6,000 young inventors in the year 2000. The Academy of Applied Science, Kids Invent Toys/Kids Invent Robots, and the Edison Young Inventors will receive funding for a wide range of kids' invention and discovery programs. The PatentCafe.com sponsorship will support invention and computer training for inner city youth; invention summer camps; and programs designed to develop curricula and teacher resources for invention learning.
In addition to the grant funding, the sponsored organizations will be able to use PatentCafe.com's leading Internet presence and resources for dedicated organization web pages, school program distribution via downloads, online newsletters and ties to PatentCafe.com's corporate, academic or inventor organization partners. The programs can also take advantage of PatentCafe.com's Kids, Teachers and Parents Resource Directory and the Patent Cafe Magazine Kids' Invention news and articles.
This year's PatentCafe.com grant for AAS is earmarked for Exploration Cybercamp, based at the Founders Library at Howard University in Washington, DC. It's a two-week summer study program targeting middle school children from low-income families in the community. Students who may have little or no computer knowledge or experience will learn fun and practical hands-on computer skills. By the completion of the program, each child will have created an Internet web page of her/his own design, reflecting on the experiences and activities at Exploration Cybercamp.
The funding for Kids Invent Toys/Kids Invent Robots will help children work in teams to write mini-business plans, create ads, make presentations, set up displays and create web pages to promote their toy inventions.
