Educational Toys for the Refrigerator

A new venue for learning has evolved from an unlikely household appliance: the refrigerator. According to ToyMagnets.com, a specialty online toy store, combined with the proper items, a refrigerator can become an effective educational tool in any household.

In the course of testing new products for their online toy store, Mark and Karen Carson, co-founders of ToyMagnets.com, discovered that their children gravitated around the kitchen refrigerator when certain magnetic toys were attached to it. After seeing their own children's interest, and the positive effects that it was generating, they started to actively acquire additional educational toys that were also magnetic.

Parents are always on the lookout for toys that provide equal doses of education and entertainment, says Carson. No pun intended, but children are naturally attracted to magnets. If the magnet happens to have educational qualities to it, that's all the better!

Really Big Words by Magnetic Poetry - composed of hundreds of words and word fragments, Magnetic Poetry allows for literally billions of sentence combinations - from the poetic to the silly. The Really Big Words kit is perfect for kids as it includes large word tiles for easy sticking to the refrigerator plus a handy carrying case.

Foam Fun - Numbers & Symbols by Dowling Magnets - a traditional educational favorite, these large foam numbers and symbols have a magnetic backing which will adhere itself to any metal surface. A fun set for children to practice their early math skills.

GeoPuzzle by Dowling Magnets - similar to other geography puzzles, however, this one can be attached and re-attached to the family refrigerator again and again.

Fractiles by Fractiles, Inc. - Fractiles are both beautiful and deceivingly mathematic. Using angles based on the number seven, these unique magnetic tiles allow you to easily make your own aesthetically pleasing designs with repeating and non-repeating patterns.

Make-A-Face by Dowling Magnets - the Make-A-Face set is the magnetic equivalent to Mr. Potato Head. Perfect for younger kids, this kit can help youngsters identify facial features - as well as make great funny faces.

Frigits by Think-of-It! - educational in a non-traditional sense, Frigits encourage children to develop their creativity and problem-solving skills. Comprised of chutes, wheels, and marbles, kids can create their own custom roller coaster on the family fridge.

Magnetic Dinosaurs by Melissa & Doug - two of kids' favorite things magnets AND dinosaurs. Includes over 20 different prehistoric creatures for fun and learning.
