Children’s Hospital Receives Gift of Collectible Dolls From Employee
A Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center employee has donated a collection of more than 40 vintage and collectible dolls, trunks and accessories from around the world, dating back to World War I. To raise money for Children’s financial assistance programs, a special “Collectible Doll Sale” will be held.
All proceeds from the sale will support Children’s Hospital in its mission to provide care to all children of the Northwest, regardless of their families’ ability to pay.
The collection originally belonged to the late Georgia Clefton, an avid doll collector. She would find old fabrics and laces to make additional costumes and buy other dolls, which she dressed as additional friends and playmates for some of the dolls. When Mrs. Clefton passed away in 2001, she left the collection to her daughter, Catherine Sisk, a 24-year employee at Children’s in the department of materials management, who donated the collection to ensure her mother’s legacy would go to a worthy cause.
My mother loved to discover and work with doll costumes, especially ones from different eras and other cultures, said Catherine Sisk. She had a remarkable sense of color, style and display and was very proud of my long association with Children’s. Because three of my four siblings were born with a neuromuscular disease, she knew first-hand the importance of Children’s mission. I’m so pleased her legacy will benefit this wonderful place.
