Entire Jedi Council from Episode II Brings New Victories to Players

Crush your opponent instantly for the first time as you join forces with the Jedi Council from Episode II in JEDI GUARDIANS, the latest expansion set for the STAR WARS(r) trading card game. JEDI GUARDIANS introduces a new victory condition, the game's first alternative win mechanic, and focuses gameplay primarily on Jedi decks in counterpoint to the Dark Side focus of the game's earlier expansion, SITH RISING. The 105-card JEDI GUARDIANS set features two powerful new game mechanics (Overkill and Reserves), special piloting abilities for Episode II characters, and the debut of the entire Jedi Council from Episode II, including Qui-Gon Jinn, whose nemesis Darth Maul was introduced in the SITH RISING expansion. The set includes new cards for Episode II favorites Anakin Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jango Fett, and Darth Tyranus, as well as two preview cards for the upcoming THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK(tm) game set. The randomly assorted 11-card booster packs feature extensive Episode II content that continues to add to the growing levels of complexity and gameplay.

Overkill, Reserves, the new victory condition, and all of the other new game features in JEDI GUARDIANS enhance players' strategies within the Organized Play system that supports the STAR WARS TCG, including DCI(r)-sanctioned competitive tournaments and DCI-sanctioned championship events. Today's release kicks off a 19-day countdown to the second annual STAR WARS Trading Card Game Championships to be held at the GEN CON gaming convention on July 26. Wizards of the Coast, pioneers of organized play for trading card games, will fly top prize-winners from regional qualifier events in 22 cities nationwide to GEN CON to compete at the championship event for $20,000 in overall prize support. The DCI is the governing authority for all officially sanctioned STAR WARS trading card game tournaments.
