Acclaim Entertainment Announces Turok Toy Deal with Playmates Toys
Acclaim Comics, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc., today announced it has reached an agreement with Playmates Toys, Inc to create a line of action toys based on Acclaim's most popular comic book hero, Turok. Available in October 1998, Playmates' Turok collectible figure line will coincide with Acclaim Entertainment's release of their second Turok Nintendo 64 video game, Turok 2: Seeds Of Evil. The first game, Turok:Dinosaur Hunter, was the top-selling third party game for the Nintendo 64 last year, selling in excess of 1.5 million units worldwide.
We're very excited to see the Turok character and his world brought to life by Playmates, a company with an excellent reputation for finely crafted toy figures, said Gregory Fischbach, co-chairman and chief executive officer of Acclaim Entertainment. Turok's history in comic books and video games has proven the character's appeal to people of all ages.
Playmates' Articulated Figure Line will feature highly recognizable characters from Acclaim's Turok series, including Joshua Fireseed, Tal’Set (Son of Stone, the original Turok), the Campaigner, Primagen and Adon. Playmates' line will also include an exciting Joshua vs. Raptor Battle Display Diorama modeled after the original Nintendo 64 Turok: Dinosaur Hunter packaging. The set contains partially articulated figures that can be removed from the diorama.
We're thrilled about our affiliation with Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. We can't wait to unleash our line of aggressively-styled action figures and an eye-popping Turok battle display diorama that will capture the intensity of the Turok world for gamers and action figure collectors alike, said Jeff Trojan, director of boys marketing at Playmates.
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, the long-awaited sequel to last year's top-selling third party game for the Nintendo 64, returns Joshua Fireseed to the Lost Land as Turok to battle the Primagen, an evil force he unwittingly awakened at the end of the first game. The Primagen, imprisoned at the core of the Lost Land, has summoned a massive army of savage creatures to destroy the energy totems that hold him captive. Turok must now end the devastation he has set in motion. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil will be supported by a major TV and print campaign as well as in-store merchandising programs and will be available for the Nintendo 64, PC and Game Boy.
